Laia Pla

Laia Pla

Laia Pla was born in Badalona, Spain, in 1973. She studied a Higher Degree in Sculpture at the Pau Gargallo Higher Art School in Badalona and a Higher Degree in Fashion Design at the Llotja School in Barcelona.

She says: "I mix the two disciplines creating textile sculptures as the basis of my work. The thread allows me to create characters and tell their stories in a poetic way, weaving ideas, concepts and personalities while transforming beauty into something out of the ordinary. My work begins in a classical way, modelling clay. Then I make a mould that allows me to experiment with different materials, first, thread or fabric, and then many others such as leather, paper, resin, plaster or cement."

She has participated in group exhibitions in San Vigilio (Italy), Estonia and many cities in Spain. She has also exhibited at the Museum of Music of Barcelona, the Granollers Museum of Natural Sciences and the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona where her work is included in the permanent collection.
